"Replay" plays back the recent path of the selected vessel through its AIS fixes — the map's time machine. You see how the ship moved and manoeuvred, not just where it is now.
Replay always belongs to a vessel: pick the ship first, then rewind its path. The map does not show the whole picture at a past moment.
How to use replay
- Sign in — replay is unavailable without an account; the map offers to register instead. Signing up is free.
- Open the Maritime Map and select a vessel: click it on the map, or find it by IMO, MMSI or name in the search field.
- The dock at the bottom of the map now carries the vessel's name. Press ▶ to play the path from the oldest fix to the freshest; ◀ and ▶ on either side step one fix at a time.
How the replay dock works
- The slider snaps to real AIS fixes, not to round minutes: every thumb position is an actual position of the ship. Fix times sit under the slider, a counter such as "7 / 24" to the right.
- Left of the slider — step back, play, step forward. While playing, the button turns into pause.
- Above the slider — the time of the selected fix: "3.2 h ago", the UTC date and time, and the speed in knots at that moment.
- The ship icon next to the counter reveals vessels that were nearby at the same moment; by default only the selected vessel stays on the map.
- ✕ returns the map to Live — real time and live positions.
- On the left of the dock — the vessel's name and the "Track" and "Route" toggles.
- With the weather layer on, the dock switches between "Weather" (forecast ahead) and "Replay" (movement back): one scale for both directions of time.
- On a phone replay lives in the vessel card: tap "Replay" next to "Track" and "Route".

Why it helps
- See where a vessel came from and how it manoeuvred on approach to a port.
- Check whether the ship waited at anchor, and for how long.
- Compare the actual path against the declared voyage.
For a vessel's full history, use its page with voyages and port calls — its window goes deeper than replay.
