Vessel check

Check a vessel by IMO: owner, sanctions and PSC record

Type an IMO number or a vessel name on Rynda (rynda.io) and the vessel page shows who owns and manages the ship, whether the vessel or its companies match any of 8 official sanctions lists, and how many Port State Control inspections and detentions it has. The verdict is free and needs no account. A dated PDF dossier for a deal file costs $19.99.

A vessel is matched by its own IMO number and by the IMO numbers of its registered owner, ship manager, ISM manager and DOC holder.

“No matches” is the result of a check on its date, not a finding that no restrictions apply. Verify the facts in the official lists before a decision.

How it works

How to check a vessel by IMO number

  1. Enter the IMO number

Type the seven-digit IMO number or the vessel name into the search at the top of this page.

  2. Open the vessel page

The header names the vessel, its flag and type. The blocks below show the owner, sanctions and PSC.

  3. Read the three verdicts

Who owns and manages the ship, whether there is a sanctions match, how many inspections ended in detention.

  4. Order the dossier if you need a file

Questions

Vessel check: questions and answers

Is the vessel check free?

The verdict is free and needs no account: current owner and manager, a sanctions match or no match, and the number of PSC inspections and detentions. A free account opens the full data for 10 vessels per 30 days. PRO removes the limit.

How do I find out who owns a vessel?

Open the vessel page by IMO number or name. It names the registered owner and the ship manager. Owners and managers since the vessel was built are on PRO and in the vessel dossier.

Which sanctions lists does Rynda check?

8 lists: OFAC SDN, the EU consolidated list, the vessels named in the EU Official Journal, UK FCDO / OFSI, Swiss SECO, Canada, Australia DFAT and the UN 1718 list.

Does “no matches” mean the vessel is clean?

No. It means the vessel and its companies were checked against the lists on that date and nothing matched. It is a reference for a first look at a counterparty; a decision needs the official lists.

What is a PSC detention?

Port State Control officers inspect foreign ships in port. When they find serious deficiencies, they detain the ship until the deficiencies are fixed. The number of detentions is a quick signal of how a vessel is run.

What is in the vessel dossier?

Identification and particulars, the sanctions screening of the vessel and its companies, owners and managers with ownership history, PSC inspections, the ports the vessel traded in, repeated routes, laden and ballast voyages, and the history of names, flags and class. The PDF carries the date of the check.

Can I buy several checks at once?

Yes. Bundles of 5 and 10 documents are 5% and 10% cheaper, belong to the whole organisation and do not expire.
