1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser and reads on later requests. Local and tab storage in the browser work similarly (tab storage is cleared when the tab closes). Below we call all of these "cookies and browser records".
This Policy applies to the English version of the rynda.io website, including your account area; other language versions have their own cookie policies. Other Rynda services offered on separate websites are governed by their own terms. Personal data collected with cookies is handled by RYNDA GLOBAL FZCO under our Privacy Policy.
2. How we ask for consent and how to change your choice
If you are not signed in, a "We use cookies" banner appears on your first visit. "Accept All" allows the analytics in section 5. "Reject" refuses it: Google Analytics is not loaded, and our own analytics stores nothing on your device. "Customize" opens "Cookie Preferences", where you choose categories and press "Save Preferences". Until you choose, the website works as after "Reject".
When you register, the form has a separate optional checkbox for analytics. It is not ticked in advance, and you can register without it. Ticking it gives consent; leaving it unticked refuses. Your answer is saved in your account, so the banner does not ask again.
If you are signed in, the choice saved in your account applies on every device and browser where you sign in to this version of the website, instead of a choice made in that browser without signing in, with one exception: if analytics was rejected in a browser without signing in, consent in your account does not turn it on in that browser. You can turn it on there after signing in, in "Cookie Preferences". If your account has no choice yet, the choice made in that browser without signing in applies; if there is none, the banner asks and saves your answer in your account, not in the browser. An answer you give while signed in replaces that browser's earlier choice. After you sign out, your account's choice no longer applies in that browser: its own choice applies, or the banner asks again. Until the website has checked your sign-in and loaded your account's choice, Google Analytics is not loaded. Signing in and accepting the Terms of Use are not consent to analytics.
Where the choice is kept: without signing in, in your browser (rynda_consent_v1, rynda_cookie_consent), separately for each browser and device. When you are signed in, in your account, with the date, the version of the website, how you made it, and your IP address and browser details at that moment. A choice applies only to the version of the website where it was made; other language versions ask separately. A choice lasts one year and ends earlier if we change the consent version (section 9) or, for a choice kept in the browser, if you clear site data. The banner then asks again.
How to change your choice: at any time press "Cookie Settings" at the bottom of any page or open cookie settings, switch "Analytics" on or off and press "Save Preferences". If you are signed in, the new choice is saved in your account and applies on all your devices. After a refusal, Google Analytics stops at once and our own analytics returns to the mode without device storage (section 5). Cookies they set earlier remain until they expire but are no longer used; you can delete them (section 8). After you withdraw consent, we delete or anonymise the link between your account and our own analytics and internal statistics, and your session recordings, within 30 days.
3. Categories of cookies
Essential: sign-in, protection against automated data collection, language, your cookie choice, form drafts, interface settings, and one page version per browser while we compare versions. Always on. Legal bases: our contract under the Terms of Use and our legitimate interest in serving requested pages and protecting the website.
Traffic source tags: the referring website, campaign tags in the page address, the first and the last page opened, to see which channels bring visitors and registrations. The rynda_ft and rynda_lp cookies are set only after you allow analytics, so section 4 lists them as Analytics; no name, email or phone number. Before a choice and after a refusal nothing is stored on your device for them, and a refusal deletes them. If you register with analytics allowed, they are saved in your account as its source. Legal basis: your consent. The rynda_ref0 tab record is set by the browser check just before the page reloads, so that the referring website is not lost, and is deleted as soon as it is read. Legal basis: our legitimate interest (Privacy Policy, section 4).
Analytics: Google Analytics 4, the full mode of our own analytics (section 5), the rynda_ft and rynda_lp traffic source cookies and the visit number record for internal statistics (section 6), to understand how the website is used and find errors. Only with your consent: the optional checkbox at registration, "Accept All" in the banner or the "Analytics" switch in Cookie Preferences (section 2).
Functional: none at present. The "Functional" switch saves your choice but controls nothing: language and sign-in are essential. New functional cookies will be described here before use.

5. Analytics services
Google Analytics 4, a Google service (United States), runs only if analytics is allowed. It receives the cookie identifier, network address, addresses of pages you open with their parameters, referring source, and browser and device information, but not your account number, email or other contact details. See also International Data Transfers.
Our own analytics runs on PostHog software hosted for us by our affiliated company, in two modes:
- without device storage, for all visitors, including before a choice and after a refusal: page views and exits, clicks, page errors, loading speed, the network address and browser information. The visitor number lives only in the open tab's memory and is lost when you close or reload it. If you tick the analytics checkbox when you register, that visit's events are linked to the new account, so we can see the path to registration; without it they stay anonymous;
- full mode, only after consent (section 2): a visitor number is stored in your browser (
ph_*) and recognised on later visits; a signed-in user is linked to the account (account number, email, account type, role); session recording captures actions on a page so the visit can be replayed; account-area pages, including messages, are not recorded and typed data is masked. Recordings are kept for 30 days. Signing out unlinks the browser from the account.
Regardless of your cookie choice, our server also sends account information to our own analytics (email, plan and payments, features in use, registration and purchase events) and Rynda Tech enquiry events without your name or email address. This does not use cookies; see the Privacy Policy.
6. What runs before you choose
Before a choice and after a refusal, these run: essential cookies and records, the rynda_ref0 tab record (section 3), our own analytics without device storage, requests to third-party resources (section 7), and:
- internal visit statistics: page address and parameters, visit number, device, browser and system, country and region, referring source and campaign tags, and, only if you have consented to analytics and have not rejected it in that browser, your account number. Without consent the visit number stays in the open tab only. The network address itself is not stored; our server sends it to ipapi.co (Kloudend, Inc., United States) to find country and region;
- registration steps: which steps of the registration form were completed, without the email, name or phone number you type; Google Analytics does not receive them.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running and protecting the website, understanding its use and seeing at which step registrations stop (Privacy Policy, section 4).
Section statistics: if you are signed in and open pages of the Rynda Tech section, our server counts the view in our own analytics as a daily total: the page, language, date and whether the account belongs to our staff. Your account is used only to count each page once a day and is not stored with the totals. Our analytics system also notes when it received each view; the statistics use only the date. No clicks, recordings, network address or browser information are included, and nothing is stored on your device for this. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the website. You can object at any time: press "Reject" in the banner, switch "Analytics" off in Cookie Preferences or write to info@rynda.io, and we stop counting your views. If you left the analytics checkbox unticked when you registered, your views are not counted either.
7. Third-party resources on our pages
Your browser loads some page parts directly from other organisations: map images from OpenStreetMap, map styles from MapLibre, map libraries from unpkg and some document fonts from jsDelivr (both content delivery networks). Like any request, this tells them your network address, browser information and the address of the requesting website; we send them no account information. The map and page need these resources, so your cookie choice does not affect them. They follow their own rules; their servers may be in other countries.
8. How to block cookies in your browser and what stops working
Your browser lets you delete or block cookies and site data. If you block them for rynda.io:
- you will not be able to sign in or use your account area;
- vessel, port, company and notice pages may not open: the website checks the browser first, and the check needs cookies and JavaScript;
- vessel positions and map data may not load;
- your language and cookie choice will not be remembered, so the banner will appear again;
- form drafts and interface settings will not be saved.
Deleting analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*, ph_*) does not affect the website; to refuse analytics, Cookie Preferences is simpler.
9. Changes to this Policy and consent version
We update this Policy when cookies, services or the consent procedure change, and publish each version here with its date. Substantial changes are announced at least 15 calendar days in advance, by email to your account address and on the website.
If a change affects what you agreed to, such as a new analytics service or purpose, we change the consent version and previous choices stop applying: the banner asks again, whether or not you are signed in, and analytics stays off until you answer. Consents to analytics saved in browsers under the previous version of this Policy stopped applying when this version took effect, so the banner asks again; earlier refusals still apply. New cookies that need consent are used only after they are described here.
