1. About these terms

These terms explain how you share AIS lines from your own receiver with the rynda.io AIS station network and what you get for a working station.

They form part of our Terms of Use between you and RYNDA GLOBAL FZCO ("we", "us"), and the definitions in the Terms of Use apply in them. These terms govern taking part in the network; the Terms of Use govern everything else. Our liability, governing law and disputes are governed by the Terms of Use (section 12 and section 16).

You accept these terms by ticking "I accept the terms of participation in the station network": when you register with "Connect an AIS station" selected, or in "My AIS stations" when you create or edit a station. You cannot create a station without accepting them.

In these terms:

  • network means the AIS station network: lines received by members' receivers and sent to our servers;
  • member means a user who has accepted these terms and created at least one station in their account;
  • station means an AIS receiver or receiving software that sends AIS lines over UDP to the address and port the platform gives it;
  • AIS lines means AIS messages in the NMEA 0183 format received by your receiver;
  • reward means the PRO plan and the report allowance you get free of charge under section 5.

2. Joining the network

  1. Sign in or register, and accept these terms.
  2. In "My AIS stations", click "Add station" and enter the station name, the antenna location (coordinates), the antenna height (optional) and the receiver type. For a station on a ship, also enter that ship's MMSI. The platform gives you the receiving address and the station's own port.
  3. Set your receiver to send AIS lines over UDP to that address and port.

You provide your own equipment and internet connection. We do not supply or maintain equipment.

Station name: do not include your name, address or phone number in it.

Limits: up to 5 active stations per account; switched-off stations do not count. Up to 20 stations in total over time, including switched-off ones. If you need more, write to support@rynda.io.

3. What you share and what you agree to

  1. You share with us the AIS lines your receiver picks up. Sharing is voluntary, and you can stop at any time (section 7).
  2. Your confirmation: you confirm that you may share these lines: the receiver is yours or used with its owner's permission, including on board a ship, and receiving and passing on AIS messages is not prohibited where the antenna is installed.
  3. Our right to use the lines: you grant us, free of charge, a worldwide right without time limit to use the AIS lines you share in our products and services, including for analytics, data quality checks and training models. To the extent the lines are protected by intellectual property rights, this is a non-exclusive licence for as long as those rights last. For lines shared before you switch off a station or delete your account, this right continues afterwards.
  4. Third parties: we do not pass a station's lines to third parties as a separate feed. Information derived using them forms part of our products and services.
  5. The reward is not a payment: you are not paid money for the lines. The reward is not a payment or consideration for the lines but a platform benefit, which we may change under section 8.

4. Information about you and your stations

  1. We keep the station name, the antenna coordinates and height, the receiver type, the ship's MMSI for a station on a ship, the port issued, the times of the first and last line, counts of lines and vessels heard, daily results, reviews and data pauses, reward requests and decisions about the station and the reward. How we process personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
  2. Antenna location: only you and our administrators see the exact antenna coordinates. Members' stations are not shown to other users or visitors. If we start showing stations publicly, a station's location will be shown no more precisely than a few kilometres.
  3. Messages to you: we email your account address and show a notice in your account if a station that has already sent lines has been silent for more than a day while our reception is working (one message for each such gap), if a station's data is paused (section 6), and when the reward is granted or removed. These are service messages and do not need separate consent.
  4. Deleting your account: your stations are switched off and their lines are no longer received. The station name, antenna coordinates and height, receiver type and ship's MMSI are erased from the station records, which are anonymised. The ports issued are not given to other members. An open reward request is closed and an active reward is removed. AIS lines received before deletion stay with us (section 3). Everything else follows section 14 of the Terms of Use.

5. The reward

  1. Counted day: a UTC day on which a station sent valid lines in at least 20 of its 24 hours, heard at least one vessel, and was not under a data pause at any time that day. Days while a station is under review (section 6, clause 3) are counted.

  2. Request: when one of your active stations has 7 counted days in a row, the platform creates a reward request. A member of our staff reviews it, and the decision is at our discretion. If it is approved, we email you; the status of the request is shown in "My AIS stations". After a refusal or after the reward is removed, a new request is created when a station has 7 counted days in a row after the day of that decision.

  3. What the reward gives you:

    • the PRO plan for your account. If you have paid for the PRO or ENTERPRISE plan, your paid plan applies, and the reward takes over if the payment ends. The reward does not cancel or reduce anything you have paid for;
    • an allowance of 3 reports per calendar month: a vessel dossier or a shipowner report, your choice, from one allowance. Unused reports do not carry over to the next month. If your plan's quota for these reports together is 3 or more, the plan quota applies;
    • documents the PRO plan includes in full, and PRO monthly quotas for other documents, such as the vessel track for a period, as on a paid PRO plan.
  4. One reward: an account can have only one active reward, however many stations it has.

  5. Removing the reward: the reward is removed:

    • when all your stations are switched off or have been silent for more than 14 days in a row. A station that has never sent a line counts as silent from the day it was created. The platform checks this once a day;
    • by our decision, for example if a station's lines are unreliable or you breach these terms;
    • when your account is deleted.

    We email you and show a notice in your account when the reward is removed, except when your account is deleted. After that, your account returns to the plan it has without the reward, with that plan's limits.

6. Reliable lines, station reviews and data pauses

  1. Send only lines your receiver has picked up. Do not create artificial lines, alter received ones or forward lines from elsewhere, including lines taken from the internet from other receivers or services.
  2. Data pause: we may stop accepting a station's lines if we doubt that they are reliable. A pause is lifted by our administrator. We email you and show a notice in your account when a pause is set. A day on which the station was paused at any time is not counted (section 5).
  3. Station review: we use lines from a new station, and from a station whose antenna has been moved by more than 1 nautical mile, in platform products after a review by our administrator. During the review, the station's lines are received and its figures are shown in "My AIS stations". You see the review as a notice in your account; we do not email you about it. A review is not a data pause: days under review count towards the reward if the conditions of section 5 are met. If we pause the station's data during the review, clause 2 applies.
  4. Switching off a station: we may switch off the station of a member who breaches these terms. In "My AIS stations" the station then shows as "Disabled".

7. Switching off a station and leaving the network

  1. You can switch off a station at any time with "Delete station" in "My AIS stations", or stop sending lines. Lines from a switched-off station are no longer received. Its port stays with the station and is not given to other members. To bring a station back, write to support@rynda.io.
  2. Switching off a station or deleting your account does not end our right to the lines shared before that (section 3).
  3. We may stop receiving lines from all stations in the network by emailing members at least 30 days in advance. Rewards are removed on the day reception stops.

8. Changes to these terms

  1. We may change these terms. The new version is published on the platform with the date it takes effect. We tell members about changes on the site and by email to their account address at least 15 days before the new version takes effect.
  2. Material changes: you accept changes to the reward, to our rights to the lines, or to the information about you and your stations by ticking the box in "My AIS stations". The platform asks for it when you create or edit a station, no more than once every 30 days. Without it, you cannot create a new station or edit an existing one. Until you accept the new version, the previous version applies to you: lines from your stations are still received, and the reward continues under the previous version.
  3. Other changes: clarifications of wording, new features and changes in your favour apply from the day the new version takes effect. If you keep sending lines after that day, you accept them.
  4. If you do not agree with a change, you can switch off your stations (section 7).

9. Network data and liability

  1. Not for navigation: station lines and information derived using them are not intended for navigation or for the safety of navigation.
  2. We are not responsible for your equipment or internet connection. You are not responsible for gaps in reception caused on our side.
  3. Gaps on our side: a day on which we did not receive lines for reasons on our side is counted under the general rule in section 5. If on such a day valid lines arrived in fewer than 20 of its hours, the day is not counted. While we are not receiving lines from any station in the network, the reward is not removed for silent stations.
  4. Otherwise, liability is governed by section 12 of the Terms of Use.
