Captain Storm: the rynda.io AI assistant

Category: GeneralUpdated November 4, 2026

Captain Storm is the rynda.io AI assistant that answers questions about vessels, ports, cargoes and voyages from the platform's data. It answers signed-in users: 10 questions a day on the free plan, more on paid plans. When your daily questions run out, you can buy a pack of 50. The assistant is in beta: check sanctions, figures and calculations against the original source before you decide.

What Captain Storm helps with

  • The marketplace: cargoes, vessels from brokers, open positions.
  • Vessels: where a vessel is now, its voyage, speed, particulars, owner and manager, sanctions screening.
  • Ports and routes: depths and draught limits on approach, navigational warnings, canals and their cost.
  • Passage: the sea route, weather and waves, ice and the Northern Sea Route.
  • Calculations: time-charter equivalent, laytime and demurrage, bunkers, cargo-to-vessel fit.
  • Using the site: where things are and how they work. Answers about the site come from this knowledge base.

The assistant takes its figures from platform data and names the source of each fact. If there is no data, it says so. The decision is always yours.

Where to open the assistant

Where What you see What to ask
Full chat page Conversation history on the left, question box at the bottom Anything; you can attach a document
Vessel page Captain Storm button in the page header; on a phone also an Ask Captain Storm button About this vessel
Port page The same button in the header About this port
Map Button in the header and a panel on the right About vessels, ports and cargoes on the map; the assistant can show them on the map
Account screens Button in the account header About what is on the screen; the assistant can suggest an action, and you confirm it with Do it

From the panel on a vessel page, a port page or the map, you can carry on in the full chat with Open full view. The assistant is being opened to users gradually, so not everyone sees the Captain Storm button yet.

How to ask a question

  1. Open the assistant and type your question in your own words, for example "where is THRUXTON now and when will it reach port".
  2. To have the assistant read a charter party, an SOF or a position list, press + and attach the file: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, PNG or JPG.
  3. Under the answer, pick a question from the Ask next row or type your next one.
  4. Rate the answer: Helpful or Not right. With Not right you can pick a reason and say what was wrong.

One conversation holds up to 20 questions. When only a few are left, the assistant warns you, and then offers Ask in a new conversation: your question moves to a new chat together with the vessels, ports and routes you looked at.

On a vessel or port page, the panel offers three ready-made questions. They do not use your daily questions: up to 9 such answers a day.

How the assistant reads a vessel's track

When you ask whether a vessel is stopped or under way, where it stopped, or when its signal dropped out, the assistant looks at the vessel's track, not just the latest position. It compares the positions with each other, so it does not mistake a vessel at anchor for one under way, even when the latest position reports a speed.

Plan Track depth in an answer
Free and Personal the last 24 hours
PRO 7 days
ENTERPRISE 14 days

If you ask about an earlier period, the assistant tells you how much track your plan covers and offers a vessel track report as a PDF. If you have already bought the dossier for that vessel, the depth is 14 days on any plan.

Under an answer about a moment in the track there is an Open on the map at this moment button: the map opens on the vessel with the track timeline set to that moment.

How the assistant gets a fresh position

If the vessel's latest position is more than 30 minutes old and you ask where it is now, the assistant requests a fresh position itself. It does this for one vessel per answer. The answer says when the position was taken. If there is no newer position, the assistant answers from the last known one and says how many hours old it is.

How many questions a day

Plan Questions a day
Free 10
Personal 20
PRO 50
ENTERPRISE 100

During a free PRO trial you get as many questions as on the free plan, 10 a day. The day follows your browser's time zone. The number left is shown under the question box: "7 of 10 questions left today". When they run out, the assistant tells you what time new ones arrive.

If an answer did not arrive because of a failure, the question is not counted.

Question pack

A pack is 50 questions on top of your daily limit for $4.99. You can buy one on any plan, including the free plan.

  1. Open Settings → Plan and questions on the chat page, or wait for the You've used today's questions window.
  2. Press Buy 50 questions · $4.99 and pay by card.
  3. After payment you return to the conversation and see the line "Your pack of 50 questions is active until …".

Pack questions are valid for 30 days from payment and are used only after your plan's daily limit. While the pack has questions left, the box shows how many. A pack is a one-off payment and does not renew. If the assistant fails to answer, the question goes back to the pack. Refunds for packs are covered in How to cancel and get a refund.

What is stored and how to delete it

The assistant stores the text of your questions and its answers, the time of each conversation and your ratings. Attached files are not stored: their text is read once. Your conversations are not shared with other users.

In Settings → Data & privacy you can:

  • switch off Memory across chats, so that every chat starts from scratch;
  • download your whole history as one file with Download my data;
  • delete your whole history with Delete all chats. This cannot be undone.
