17 37-P-09. PHILIPPINE ISLANDS. Sulu Sea - Tubbataha Reefs. — Restricted area. Area to be avoided. (Taunton, 17-3939 (P)) 1 - The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted proposals to establish a coterminous Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) and Area To Be Avoided (ATBA) around Tubbataha Reefs in the Sulu Sea, which is to be implemented at 0000 UTC on 1 January 2018. 2 - Tubbataha Reefs National Park is to be designated a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area and Area To Be Avoided, in order to prevent environmental damage. The area is to be avoided by vessels of 150 GT and over. 3 - The area is bounded by the following positions : 9 17,75 N — 119 47,79 E ; 9 04,73 N — 120 12,76 E ; 8 49,63 N — 120 13,99 E ; 8 29,63 N — 119 53,16 E ; 8 36,15 N — 119 35,46 E ; 9 11,06 N — 119 36,67 E. 4 - Charts affected will be updated by Notice to Mariners.
