The port of Piraeus is advancing its infrastructure and digitalisation programmes to strengthen its role as a key link between Asia and Europe. Over the last decade it has evolved into a flagship China–Greece cooperation project and a major entry hub for Asian cargo into the European market.
Over the past decade the port of Piraeus has undergone a significant transformation, moving from a regional terminal to one of the largest container gateways in the Mediterranean and a key hub for Asian imports into Europe. Investments in modern terminals, rail links, and digital platforms have sharply increased handling capacity and reduced vessel turnaround times. The operator, COSCO, and Greek authorities have pursued a “smart port” agenda, including digital cargo tracking, automated terminal management, and better connectivity to rail corridors serving Central and Eastern Europe.
