Hutchison Ports is moving into the final phase of a major expansion at the BEST container terminal in the Port of Barcelona, with total investments around €270 million including new cranes and automated yard blocks. The project will significantly increase the terminal’s handling capacity and reinforce Barcelona’s role as a key container hub in Southern Europe.
In the Port of Barcelona, terminal operator Hutchison Ports is advancing a large‑scale expansion of the BEST container terminal, one of Europe’s most technologically advanced facilities. According to European business media, the company has already invested about €130 million in upgrading infrastructure, including new cranes and seven automated container storage blocks. A further investment of roughly €140 million will bring total expansion spending close to €270 million, with the final infrastructure elements scheduled to come on stream in the second half of 2027.
