Off Botolan in Zambales province, Philippines, the motor tug M/TUG SL Sual I sank in coastal waters while carrying about 15,000 liters of diesel fuel. The Philippine Coast Guard plans to refloat the vessel and pump out the fuel once weather conditions improve, aiming to prevent a potential spill.
Philippine media report that the motor tugboat M/TUG SL Sual I sank in waters off the municipality of Botolan in Zambales province, on the western coast of Luzon. The tug, used for coastal towing and support operations, went down at an estimated depth of around two dozen meters with approximately 15,000 liters of diesel fuel in its tanks. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that, once conditions at sea improve, a team of divers will conduct an underwater assessment of the hull to prepare a refloating operation and the safe removal of the fuel.
