Taiwan-based carrier Wan Hai Lines has finalized a firm contract with China’s Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for six dual-fuel containerships of 11,000 TEU, priced at USD 118–124 million per vessel. The deal, signed with China Shipbuilding Trading, lifts Wan Hai’s 2026 orderbook at Waigaoqiao to eight ships and underscores the ongoing boom in large container newbuilding orders.
Taiwanese container line Wan Hai Lines has formally concluded a newbuilding contract with Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in China for six 11,000 TEU dual-fuel containerships, each valued between USD 118 million and USD 124 million. The transaction was arranged in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., and converts an earlier August 2026 announcement into a firm order. Including this latest deal, Wan Hai has ordered a total of eight ships from Waigaoqiao in 2026 — one 9,200 TEU unit and seven 11,000 TEU vessels — representing a combined investment estimated at USD 928–980 million. Industry data indicate that these orders add to a historically strong global container ship orderbook, heavily concentrated in the large-vessel segment.
