The Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland has completed the float-out of Royal Caribbean’s new Icon-class cruise ship Hero of the Seas, marking the vessel’s first time in the water and a major construction milestone. The ship will be completed at the outfitting pier ahead of its planned debut from Miami in August 2027 on Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.
According to coverage by the Orlando Sentinel, Meyer Turku filled the dry dock with more than 90 million gallons of water to float out the massive Hero of the Seas, giving the Icon-class vessel its first contact with the sea. Construction will now continue at the yard’s outfitting pier before the ship undertakes sea trials, with Royal Caribbean planning its Miami debut in August 2027 for seven‑night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. The Finnish yard is simultaneously working on the fifth Icon-class ship for a 2028 debut, while sixth and seventh units in the series are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030 respectively.
