Kamarajar Port Limited near Chennai has approved a ₹4,288 crore expansion of its second container terminal that will add about 2 million TEUs of annual capacity, forming a cornerstone of its Master Plan 2047 to lift total capacity above 250 million tonnes. The project targets both gateway and transshipment cargo and includes extensive berth, yard, road and utility infrastructure investments.
Kamarajar Port, located at Ennore north of Chennai on India’s east coast, has announced a major expansion of its second container terminal that is expected to add around 2 million TEUs of annual capacity with an investment of ₹4,288 crore (roughly USD 510 million). The new facility will comprise an extended container berth, enlarged yard areas, internal road network, a dedicated customs and administrative complex and utility infrastructure, alongside modern ship‑to‑shore gantry cranes and associated container‑handling equipment designed to handle large mainline vessels.
