Taiwanese container carrier Yang Ming is not only deploying a new 15,500 TEU LNG‑powered vessel on its MS2 service, but also intensifying training programmes for officers serving on alternative‑fuel ships. According to industry reports, the company has completed advanced IGF Code training for a large group of seafarers and is continuing onboard practical instruction on LNG vessels, underscoring the sector’s focus on crew skills and welfare as it transitions to greener technologies.

Taiwanese liner operator Yang Ming Marine Transport has brought a new approximately 15,500 TEU LNG dual‑fuel containership into its MS2 loop and highlighted parallel efforts to prepare its crews for alternative‑fuel operations. Trade press reports state that 148 Yang Ming officers have completed advanced training under the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low‑Flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code) and are now moving on to hands‑on training aboard LNG‑fuelled vessels, including direct participation in bunkering and fuel‑system management. This combination of fleet renewal and intensive training illustrates how decarbonisation and human‑element investment are increasingly linked in container shipping.
