On the back of heightened Middle East risk and strong Asian demand, the VLCC tanker market has seen a sharp spike in spot charter rates on key crude routes from the Middle East Gulf and Oman to China, as well as from Nigeria and Guyana to Europe. According to Baltic Exchange data reported by leading maritime outlets, daily time‑charter equivalents on several routes are approaching USD 800,000–860,000 per round voyage, boosting owners’ earnings and putting pressure on charterers.
The latest Baltic Exchange weekly assessment, widely cited by maritime business media, shows that the TD3C route (270,000 mt crude from the Middle East Gulf to China) has jumped by about 21 %, from roughly WS 678 to above WS 820, implying a round‑trip TCE in excess of USD 862,000 per day for a standard VLCC. At the same time, TD34 (Gulf of Oman to China) climbed by around 62 % to approximately WS 451, yielding an estimated TCE of about USD 466,000 per day. Strong gains have also been recorded on Atlantic basin routes: TD20 (Nigeria to UK Continent) has risen toward WS 327, while TD27 (Guyana to UK Continent) is reported around WS 313, translating to daily earnings in the USD 156,000–162,000 range.
