In China, the ultra-large containership OOCL Grace, with a capacity of over 24,000 TEU and equipped with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system, has departed the yard in Nantong, Jiangsu, to start sea trials. The vessel ranks among the world’s largest methanol-powered container ships and illustrates the rapid shift of global shipbuilding towards alternative fuels.
According to Chinese media reports, the containership OOCL Grace, one of the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of around 24,168 TEU, left the wharf in Nantong, Jiangsu province, on September 12, 2026 to commence sea trials. The ship was built at a Chinese yard and is intended for deployment on long-haul container trades operated by OOCL and partners, combining very high slot capacity with reduced emissions compared with conventional diesel-fuelled megamax tonnage.
