Portuguese ports have unveiled comprehensive expansion and modernisation plans under the “Portos 5+” programme, including terminal capacity increases, new marinas and improved navigation on inland waterways such as night‑time operations on the Douro. Investments cover ports from the north to the south and island territories, reinforcing Portugal’s role as a maritime hub on Europe–Atlantic trade routes.
At the Porto Maritime Week conference, Portuguese port authorities presented major ongoing projects under the national Portos 5+ initiative, aimed at expanding and upgrading port infrastructure across the country. Economic and sector media report that the programme includes investments to enlarge port areas and quay lengths, build new marinas, deepen access channels and enhance navigation systems, including safe night‑time navigation on the Douro River. The initiative spans ports in northern and southern mainland Portugal as well as island territories, creating a coordinated package of infrastructure projects.
