Maersk has announced a revision of its Heavy Load Surcharge (HLS) for cargo moving from Far East Asia to North Europe, reflecting higher handling and transport costs for heavy containers. The change adds to already elevated base freight rates and further complicates the total landed cost for shippers.
Maersk has issued a customer advisory announcing a revision of the Heavy Load Surcharge on its E1W service covering shipments from Far East Asia to North Europe. The notice states that updated surcharge levels will take effect in late September and can be checked via the carrier’s tariff lookup tool for jurisdictions regulated by the US Federal Maritime Commission and the European Economic Area. The revision applies to containers exceeding standard weight thresholds and is charged on top of existing FAK (Freight All Kinds) base rates, which remain elevated amid globally higher ocean logistics costs.
