Tropical Shipping has announced a revised bunker surcharge increase effective April 12, 2026, between the continental U.S. or Canada and ports in the British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Leeward and Windward Islands, South America, and between Canada and U.S./Puerto Rico ports. The hikes affect dry and reefer containers, vehicles, breakbulk, and LCL cargo.
Tropical Shipping has officially announced a significant increase in its bunker surcharge due to volatility in global fuel prices. For 20-foot dry containers, the surcharge rises from $200 to $450; for 40-foot dry from $400 to $900. Reefer equipment sees the steepest hikes: 20-foot from $320 to $720, and 40-foot from $640 to $1,440. Other categories like vehicles over 700 cft at $22.50 per ST-FT, barrels at $8.44 each, and pallets at $45 also face proportional increases.
