The capesize sector saw steady weekly gains, with BCI 5TC closing at $23,697, driven by miner activity, coal volumes, and tonnage tightness in Pacific and Atlantic.
The capesize market experienced a week of gradual strengthening, building positive momentum from midweek as activity increased and tonnage tightened in both Pacific and Atlantic basins. The BCI 5TC rose steadily, peaking before a slight correction, to close at $23,697 from $20,544 at the week's start. In the Pacific, steady demand from all three miners, improved coal cargoes, and operator-controlled flows supported the rally; C5 rates climbed to $11.58 before easing.
