Shipbuilders in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, have completed the “Yuanhai Silu”, the world’s first 325,000-deadweight-ton ore carrier equipped with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system. Designed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry together with the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, the vessel marks a major technological step toward using methanol in the large dry bulk segment.
In Yangzhou, in China’s Jiangsu Province, shipbuilders have completed construction and held the naming ceremony for the “Yuanhai Silu”, the world’s first methanol dual-fuel ore carrier with a deadweight of about 325,000 tons. The vessel was designed and built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in cooperation with the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, and the project introduced multiple key technologies for the application of methanol fuel on large ocean-going ships, including fuel storage and supply systems and structural adaptations to accommodate new operational conditions.
