A tanker transiting near the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile on September 18, causing a fire onboard that was later extinguished. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reporting system and regional media, all crew members are safe, and authorities are still assessing any potential environmental impact. The incident occurs amid a series of recent attacks and security incidents involving commercial shipping in the wider Hormuz area, with Oman confirming assistance in evacuating the crew of another damaged tanker in prior days.Multiple independent maritime and news outlets provide consistent accounts.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on September 18 that the company security officer of a tanker transiting near the Strait of Hormuz notified the center that the vessel had been struck by an “unknown projectile,” triggering a fire onboard. UKMTO’s advisory states that the fire was subsequently extinguished and that all crew members were accounted for and reported safe. The organization added that the environmental impact of the incident, including any possible oil spill, remains “unconfirmed” at this stage. Maritime Executive, citing information received by UKMTO, notes that the vessel’s position was about 16 nautical miles northwest of the Omani coast near Khasab, a strategic area close to the chokepoint of the Strait of Hormuz.
