Rappler reports that the Magsaysay Group, a major Philippine player in crewing and maritime employment, has placed a stronger emphasis on progressive welfare initiatives for seafarers under the leadership of Doris Magsaysay Ho. A key component is the MATTERS crew welfare system, dedicated to Filipino seafarers’ physical health, mental wellness, financial literacy and career advancement, and designed to support both crew and their families. These initiatives are reinforced by financial assistance schemes such as Fundamayan and by institutional training through the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy, founded with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines in 2018 to train up to 1,000 maritime students.
