Australia has completed its first ship-to-ship green-ammonia bunkering operation involving Mineral Europa at Port Hedland. The trial tested port controls, emergency procedures and the practical requirements for lower-emission shipping.
On November 2, the Belgian-flagged bulk carrier Mineral Europa received green ammonia in a ship-to-ship transfer at Port Hedland in Western Australia. The roughly 210,000-dwt Newcastlemax is associated with CMB.TECH, while Pilbara Ports and Fortescue supported the operation. The transfer took less than two hours before the vessel proceeded to load iron ore for shipment to China.
