VLCC freight rates have eased after a sharp surge, yet they remain close to yearly highs as Gulf-related risks and constrained vessel availability continue to support tanker earnings.

The Oman-to-China VLCC rate fell to approximately Worldscale 776 from about 841, according to data reported on 18.10.2026. The earlier level was the highest since the index was introduced, but softer demand over the following week triggered a correction in freight pricing.
