Bangladesh is moving ahead with three large-scale infrastructure projects to modernise and expand Chattogram Port, including construction of the Bay Terminal, development of the Laldia Container Terminal and appointment of an international operator for the New Mooring Container Terminal. The investments are aimed at significantly boosting capacity and easing congestion at the country’s main maritime gateway.
Bangladesh has announced a package of three major projects to upgrade and expand Chattogram Port, the country’s largest seaport and primary gateway for its export‑driven economy. According to national business media, the programme centres on the construction of the Bay Terminal, development of the Laldia Container Terminal and the engagement of an international terminal operator for the New Mooring Container Terminal. The shipping minister underlined that these projects are intended to sharply increase container handling capacity and improve operational efficiency, while confirming that the government currently has no plan to develop a separate deep‑sea port under the “Magnama” name.
