The International Maritime Organization has updated its Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business by adding a standardized data set for reporting fuel oil consumption and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII). The move aims to harmonize environmental reporting across the shipping industry and ease compliance with tightening greenhouse‑gas reduction requirements.
According to Seatrade Maritime, IMO has added a new “fuel oil consumption and CII reporting dataset” to its Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business, following a 12‑month project led by classification societies to define global standards for digital transmission of fuel and carbon‑intensity data. The dataset is designed to tackle long‑standing fragmentation in reporting formats between fleets, flag States and regional regimes, by specifying common data fields and structures for environmental compliance reporting. The updated Compendium is available free of charge via the IMO website, enabling broad adoption of the standard without licensing barriers and encouraging early integration into industry software.
