According to reports from South Korean and international media, a fire broke out around 22:38 local time on 27.08.2026 aboard a roughly 7,000-ton oil products tanker sailing about 7.4 km north of Jawoldo Island, off Incheon in the Yellow Sea. The vessel was carrying 18 crew members, including South Korean nationals and foreign seafarers. Two crew members, one in his sixties and one in his twenties, were later found unresponsive in the engine room and pronounced dead. The remaining 16 people on board were safely evacuated by the Korea Coast Guard and reported to be in stable condition.
