Viking has announced the float-out of its second hydrogen-powered cruise ship, Viking Astrea, marking a key construction milestone as the vessel touches water for the first time. The ship, designed to operate with zero emissions when fueled appropriately, is scheduled for delivery in May 2027, while the company’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship Viking Libra is due in November 2026.
As reported by the Las Vegas Sun, Viking stated that the Viking Astrea has been floated out, with the dry dock flooded and the vessel moved to the water for the first time, signalling completion of major structural work. The company describes Viking Astrea as its second hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions under suitable fueling conditions. Delivery is planned for May 2027, with the ship to spend its inaugural season on Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries, while Viking Libra, the first hydrogen-powered unit in the fleet, is scheduled for delivery in November 2026.
