Capital Tankers has acquired three additional VLCC newbuilding contracts from Capital Maritime & Trading Corp at about $122.7 million per vessel for October 2027 delivery, securing significant embedded value versus current market prices and enlarging its crude tanker orderbook.
According to the company’s second-quarter 2026 disclosure, Capital Tankers acquired three further very large crude carrier (VLCC) newbuilding contracts from related party Capital Maritime & Trading Corp at a price of roughly $122.7 million per vessel, with delivery scheduled for October 2027. Management described the transaction as an “in the money acquisition,” noting that comparable sister vessels for first-quarter 2027 delivery have recently been sold to end users at around $165 million each. In addition to these three firm units, Capital Tankers retains options on another 13 tankers — 11 VLCCs and 2 Suezmaxes — with contracted deliveries stretching from the fourth quarter of 2027 through the third quarter of 2028.
