The Council of the European Union is examining compromise proposals for the 13th session of IMO's Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications, Search and Rescue (NCSR 13), including updates to guidelines and performance standards for R-Mode equipment.
During a Council of the European Union meeting on March 25, 2026, preparations for IMO/NCSR 13 (June 22-26, 2026) were reviewed, including a draft Union submission on performance standards for shipborne ranging mode receiver equipment (R-Mode). Discussions also covered updates to Guidelines for the presentation of navigation-related information to enhance maritime safety. These tie into recent MARPOL, SOLAS, and other amendments adopted by MEPC and MSC.
